Goodbye Calgary

For 20mths we have lived in Calgary. It’s an exceptional city – organized and well thought out. There are playgrounds everywhere and paths for walking or biking. There are beautiful forests and hilltops. There are coyotes, deer, and moose. One day one was trotting down the highway as we climbed the hill to our house. There is a myriad of options for education and homeschool.

If I wanted to live in a city, this would be the ideal one. Everything about it is wonderful.

But today we said goodbye.

For a long time, I’ve had a dream of growing our own food and creating an intentional community. It was there pre-2020 but is now even more of a certainty.

After what felt like forever, our house in Ontario sold and we bought a new place.

It’s a bittersweet day. Since we arrived in November 2021, at least once a day I would say, “When we move….” It’s been the long, anticipated event always on all of our minds.

When it wasn’t happening, we settled in to life here. Athena took sewing lessons. Raine went to art lessons. Branch joined a homeschool pod. Cora was at an outdoor play group. And we found a really wonderful church (with mountain views). All the children loved it and are loved by the people there. It’s been good.

But….we’re moving to Saskatchewan.

When I left Ontario, I thought it was to be permanently planted in Alberta. Thankfully, I hadn’t yet gotten a tattoo of the wild rose which is the provincial flower because God prepared a place somewhere altogether different. (I adore roses so was excited for that connection with Alberta. Strong and free, the provincial motto, means so much I sincerely was considering a tattoo with the rose and motto. But we’re moving on.)

Today we said goodbye to Calgary. The songs of Jolie Blue guided us into Saskatchewan.

Tomorrow we move into our new place.

Stay tuned for the details.
